Day of Silence!
The Day of Silence is a school event that anyone can take part of. By taking a vow of silence, and not speaking for the entire school day, you are speaking up for those who can't. Many people in the LGBTQ+ community have been silenced in many ways. It can be unsafe for them to come out, express their true identities, or live and love freely. Staying silent is a great way to spread attention and make people realize these are real problems. If you don't want to take the vow of silence, there are many other ways to show your support. Help your silent friends navigate the school day, give a description of the day to anyone who is wondering, and use your advocacy voice!
The logistics: To sign up visit Mrs. Fortune's room (221) between April 8-11. The day of you will be given a whiteboard with an explanation of why you are participating in the back, in front of the library. At the end of the day, there will be a "breaking the silence" ceremony for all who participated. Vocal supporters can receive pride stickers upon request.
